Glen Powell has shared an exciting update on his next movie.
The Top Gun star is set to appear in Edgar Wright’s big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man.
Released in 1982, the novel is set in the year 2025 and tells the story of Ben Richards, who participates in a reality show in which contestants win money by evading a team of hitmen hellbent on killing them.
It was first adapted into a film of the same name in 1987, directed by Paul Michael Glaser, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a wrongly convicted criminal forced to compete in the titular game show.
Wright is set to direct the latest adaptation with a script he co-wrote with Michael Bacall. Anyone but You star Powell is set to star in the lead role and has shared a promising update on the film.
“I have been doing a lot of sprinting. That’s all I can say. I’ve been working on my sprint,” he laughed while talking to Screen Rant.
“No, I’ll say that Edgar Wright has been one of my favourite filmmakers for as long as I can remember. I think since Shaun of the Dead, I was like, ‘I can’t wait to work with this guy’. And he just keeps churning out brilliant things that only his brain could concoct.
“The Running Man is something he’s so passionate about, and we’re really taking the Stephen King book and just adding a lot of fun Edgar Wright flavour to it, and it has been awesome. That’s going to be a really fun one; I’m super excited about it.”
Powell most recently appeared in Twisters, a sequel to the 1996 disaster film Twister directed by Lee Isaac Chung.
The actor stars in the film as Tyler Owens, a famous storm chaser who joins forces with Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Javi (Anthony Ramos) in a fight for survival when multiple tornado systems converge over central Oklahoma.
Twisters is in cinemas now.
