Amy Dowden has shared her excitement as a new edition of her book comes out this week. The professional Strictly Come Dancing performer has had many ups and downs over the past couple of years as she battled breast cancer. The dancer revealed she had breast cancer in May 2023 after finding a lump in April, the day before her honeymoon with dancer Ben Jones.
Amy needed a mastectomy and underwent chemotherapy meaning she was unable to compete with a celebrity partner on Strictly in 2023. She made a return to Strictly in 2024 but had to pull out midway through the 20th-anniversary series due to an injury.
After undergoing a mastectomy and chemotherapy, Amy announced in February last year that there was “no evidence of disease” after ringing the bell in November. In a new Instagram post, the Welsh dancer shared a video of her books being delivered in a cardboard box.
The clip showed Amy ripping open the packaging to reveal her paperback book with its new cover. Excitement grew as she began throwing the books to friends and family to take a look at, as “Sunday Times Bestseller” was written across the bottom of them.
Amy captioned the post: “Eeeeekkkk out this THURSDAY. Dancing in the rain Paperback and new cover! Soooooooo exciting. Also @gkx_carlos being cheeky in the video. Truly hoping this book will help many others.”
Fans of the professional dancer supported Amy in the comments. One fan wrote: “So proud, ordered my copy at the start of July. So excited to receive it!! will be third copy of the book that I own!”
Another said: “I have the signed hardback copy and I read it in one sitting! I may need to purchase the paperback too it’s so beautiful.” Others said “Aww amazing. Congratulations Amy.
“You look stunning” and “I’m on to the last chapter as I took this book on holiday it’s a fantastic book and you’re such a inspiration to lots of people and so happy you’re fully recovered.”
Amy’s book Dancing in the Rain: My Story, is described by the dancer as “My story of hope, courage and resilience”, the book shares the personal story of Amy and talks about her cancer battle.
The professional dancer was confirmed back in April as being among the returnees to the ballroom this autumn. After the BBC confirmed her in the professional line of for Strictly 2025, she shared on social media: “So grateful to be back on the best show on TV for my 9th year with my strictly family. @bbcstrictly.
“This show means everything to me, through the highs and my all time lows, it truly got me through my toughest of times. The show is pure magic and good for the soul. I’m feeling stronger than ever.
“The countdown begins to be back in the rehearsal room with my strictly family. Who else is counting down the days? Keep dancing! Welsh love.”
The dancer has since been in rehearsals with the other professional dancers ahead of the return next month. Amy has also been shortlisted for an award at this year’s National Television Award, following the release of her documentary following her breast cancer journey.
