Mollie King Breaks Silence on Why She’s Been Missing from BBC Radio 1

Radio presenter Mollie King has opened up about her recent absence from the BBC Radio 1 airwaves, explaining that she’s been recovering from surgery. The 38-year-old broadcaster and former member of The Saturdays shared that she’ll be making a comeback to the Matt And Mollie show this September.

Her co-presenter, Matt Edmondson, has been holding down the fort solo and occasionally teaming up with Jeremiah Asiamah in recent weeks. Taking to Instagram, King expressed her gratitude: “Hi everyone! Long time, no post! I just wanted to say a big thank you to those of you who’ve sent such lovely messages over the past few weeks while I’ve been off Radio 1. It really does mean a lot.”

She continued, revealing the reason for her break: “I had to take some time off in July for an operation but everything went well and I’m doing much better now.”

Eager to return, she added: “I’ll be back on air in September and can’t wait to be back with you! It feels like forever since I’ve been in the R1 studio… I’m even missing getting thrashed in (game) Matt vs Mollie, so that’s really saying something! Ha!”.

King also posted a series of summer snapshots, including moments at the Radio 1 studios.

While she kept the specifics of her surgery private, it’s known that King has been a part of the Radio 1 team since 2018.

Asiamah previously filled in for King during her maternity leave towards the end of 2024.
