Coronation Street’s Cait Fitton has sent a heartfelt message to former co-star Paddy Bever. The two worked closely on Coronation Street and were on-screen partners before Paddy’s departure earlier this year, the actor played Max Turner.
The message from the actress came as a Coronation Street fan account shared a compilation of clips from their relationship together on the famous Cobbles. Cait, who plays Lauren Bolton on the soap wrote shared the post and wrote: “I miss team Lax. Miss you @PaddyBever.”
The 22-year-old had been a key part of the cast since he joined the programme in 2021. Paddy took over the role from Harry McDermott, who had played Max for the previous eight years.
Paddy’s addition to the cast indicated show bosses desire to take the character in a more mature direction and he has since been involved in a number of high profile storylines. Max served time in a juvenile detention centre after he was groomed by a far right gang and also got embroiled in Joel Deering’s exit storyline.
In a statement shared with our sister site, Mirror Online, he said: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”
Paddy and Cait share updates together on their social media platform, and still have a close relationship since the exit of Paddy. Paddy has spoken about his friendship with Cait as he told the ECHO and other press in 2023 how he was delighted when she returned as a series regular.
He said: “From when we met we just really got on. I have previously worked with other young people on the show, but I had never worked closely with other people my age – which isn’t a bad thing as I love my on-screen family and everyone I’ve worked with – but with Cait, we are the same age and we had a storyline together, which was something that I’d never experienced.
“This got us pretty close, then I was obviously chuffed to hear that Cait was coming back and we’ve had a great time ever since.”
The character of Lauren was involved in Max Turner’s far-right storyline, she was thrown in turmoil after being abused by solicitor Joel. She was forced her to flee Weatherfield before returning, pregnant with Joel’s child.
Lauren eventually got revenge when she killed him as Patrick attacked her boyfriend in a train track confrontation before they both threw his body over a bridge and into a canal.
Earlier this year a fan asked Cait: “Do you miss working with Paddy – what was your favourite scene you had with him?” Sharing an intimate scene between the two where Max has her face between his hands, she said: “This scene will always be my favourite Lax scene” with two crying emojis and heartbroken emojis.”
Paddy, who clinched the rising star award at the National Television Awards in 2022, shared his gratitude towards the show’s bosses for the opportunity to portray Max’s intricate narrative since taking over the role from Harry McDermott in 2021.
He said: “It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
