ITV Coronation Street viewers recognise new character from legendary sitcom

Dev's aunt Rani made her first appearance on the soap last week

Coronation Street fans have recognised a new character from a previous TV role. Dev’s aunt Rani made her first appearance on the soap last week as she made a surprise entrance into the Rovers Return.

The character is played by Josephine Lloyd-Welcome and immediately she made an impression on viewers. On Facebook page Coronation Street ITV, fans have been discussing where they know the actress from. The post, uploaded on August 2, said: “On the day that it was revealed that yet another older actress is leaving the show – at least a new one has appeared!

“Let’s hope the producers make her work, and the fans give her a chance! Welcome, Auntie Rani!”

One viewer commented: “She was in OFAH playing Del Boy’s GP back in the day when he went for his examination and stripped off the wrong half of his clothes!”

A second fan wrote: “The Indian doctor from Only Fools and Horses, The one who examined Del and asked him to strip from the waist up.” Others recognised her from another TV appearance.

A further response was “Is she the same actress in the Maltesers advert” and another said “Me too I think she is in the Malteser advert.”

Her appearance onto the Cobbles comes as the fictional family are experiencing plenty of drama. Bernie and Aadi continued their plan to draw up the wedding plans on a tight budget and Aadi was asked by Dev to be his best man. Dev’s future wife did not see eye-to-eye with auntie Rani and impersonated her accent, in a condescending manner.
