Danny Sebastian has been a familiar face on our TV screens for many years after kickstarting his career on the BBC show Del Boys and Dealers. Known for his bubbly personality and strong passion for finding valuable antiques, Danny has since gone on to land regular roles on Dealing with Dickinson, Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip.
Away from the screen, the TV star was born in Northampton and has been in the antique business for over two decades. Danny started dealing antiques at a very early age, after his passion was ignited while attending auction houses and jumble sales with his mum.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about his mum, Danny shared: “She loved a bargain. We’d go to Wilford’s and I’d be mesmerised by the grand arrangement of it all. She’d buy anything as long as it was cheap.”
He has also spoken to the BBC about how his entrance into the antique world was “fate.” He said: “I was at an auction down south and stumbled across a room that was being prepared for a mid-20th century sale and all that I saw I just loved.” He added: “Straight away I thought ‘I’m getting into this game; I’d love to sell this tackle’.”
When he is not filming or travelling around the country for antiques, Danny is usually selling items through his business called “Afrojunk.”
He lives in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire with his partner Joanne and three daughters. He often shares rare insights into his home life on social media.
The TV expert recently shared a post on X to celebrate his daughter’s prom night. Danny shared a selection of snaps from the special day as he wrote: “Ki’s prom night and isn’t she just stunning. Now moving on to another chapter. Proudest dad out there.”
In 2017, Danny Sebastian made his debut on Bargain Hunt. The BBC show sees two teams of two compete to buy antiques with a limited budget and sell them at auction for a profit.
The teams are guided by experts who offer their advice. Experts include Charles Hanson, Irita Marriott, Ben Cooper, Colin Young, Izzie Balmer, Serhat Ahmet, and David Fergus.
Speaking about how he landed the job on the hit BBC show, he shared: “One of the crew suggested that I may well fit in; I did a wee test and must’ve passed.”
Danny has not shied away from sharing how much he loves his job on Bargain Hunt. He said: “Everyone and everything about the gig is fun and there’s also some take-home, so you get the best of both worlds… learn a bit, laugh a bit!”
He is relieved he managed to secure a stable career in the antique industry, as he joked he “could be cleaning windows” if he wasn’t on Bargain Hunt.
The expert joked: “I’ve always thought of having my own bar, which could possibly still happen, but if I wasn’t in the antiques game, who knows, I could be cleaning windows or flogging Ferraris.”
Antiques Road Trip returned to BBC with a new series earlier this year, and Danny Sebastian made his debut on the show. Viewers saw the antique expert go head-to-head with Irita Marriot with the hopes of taking home the most profit from their items at auction.
Danny joined the list of professional antique experts on the show, including Philip Serrell, Natasha Raskin-Sharp, James Braxton, David Harper, Izzie Balmer and Tahmina Ghaffar.
Danny announced the exciting news that he would be joining the team on the BBC’s social media account. The post was captioned: “NEW EXPERT ALERT!
“Let’s give a warm Road Trip welcome to the newest member of the family: Danny Sebastian!” In the video, Danny said: “I’m truly honoured to be on the show and I just hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did making it.”
Fans of the show took to the comments after the announcement, one said: “Welcome Danny!…Looking forward to seeing you on the show!” Another added: “Good luck Danny. This is going to be an interesting one against Irita Marriott.”
