Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor has played the role of Sally Metcalfe on Coronation Street for almost four decades. The actress has been involved in some of the soap’s most explosive and touching storylines and is one of the longest-standing cast members.
The 62-year-old actress has shared that she hopes to remain on the ITV soap until she is in her “70s and 80s”. Sally told the new issue of Woman’s Weekly magazine: “I’m not a retiring person. I want to keep working, it’s good for my brain. So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s. I’ll just keep going.”
She added: “It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years. I’m not in it as much as I used to be, but I drove in the other day and, as the barrier went up, I just had this huge smile because it felt like I was home. I knew I was going to have a fun day.”
Sally and her husband Tim have three children together. The eldest is 30-year-old Phoebe, their youngest daughter Harriet is 21-years-old, while their son Sam is 28-years-old.
Fans of the actress may recognise daughter Phoebe as the star behind main character Daphne Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series. Airing back in 2020, the programme was a huge success and continues to draw in large numbers.
Aside from Bridgerton, Phoebe starred in Waterloo Road between 2009 and 2010, playing Siobhan Mailey and her other credits include Prisoners’ Wives, Dickensian, Snatch and Younger.
Sally has been married to husband Tim Dynevor for 26 years, with the pair tying the knot back in 1996. Tim is a scriptwriter and was nominated for a BAFTA for his work on rival soap Emmerdale in 2008.

Speaking about being at the age of 62, Sally explained: “I’m really enjoying this time of my life. In your 60s, you can just be yourself. You don’t have to worry about all those things that younger people fret about.”
The star said: “I can’t wait for grandchildren. I’m excited about that, whenever it might be – I know that’s going to be a very special relationship, and I’ll be showing everyone the pictures!”
The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, but after having a lumpectomy and six months of chemotherapy, she made a full recovery. Sally’s 63-year-old husband, actor Tim, was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and is now cancer-free.
Hattie recently discussed her relationship with her mum with the ECHO. She said: “She’s amazing. She is my best friend. We’re very close and she is the best.”
On whether people say she look like her mum, she said: “Yeah they do. And then I laugh and they say, oh you sound just like her as well.”
