
Jamie Carragher is bursting with pride as his daughter Mia has landed a landmark role. The former Liverpool defender shares two children with wife Nicola, they have Mia and James.
James has followed in his dad’s footsteps, taking an interest in football. He first joined Liverpool’s academy in 2011, and today, now aged 22, he is a centre-back for League One side Wigan Athletic. Mia has shown an interest in dancing and acting. Last year, the 20-year-old featured in Channel 4 drama The Gathering, which was filmed across Merseyside, in two episodes as Tash.
She also played the lead character of Liv in short film The Watering Hole, which has was selected for the BIFA qualifying North East International Film Festival in November 2024.
Carragher has now taken to social media to share the new role that Mia will be stepping into. He wrote: “I’m bursting with pride with you being the first on stage Katniss Everdeen @miacarragher.
“You’ve put so much work in over so many years to land such an amazing role, you deserve this babe. I can’t wait to come & watch @thehungergamesonstage it’s going to be amazing.”

The Liverpool FC legend posted a promo photo of his daughter in the role of Katniss Everdeen from the movie series. Katniss Everdeen is a fictional character and the main protagonist of The Hunger Games trilogy written by American author Suzanne Collins.
The Hunger Games follows Katniss as she volunteers to replace her sister in a tournament that ends only when one participant remains. Pitted against contestants who have trained for this all their life, she has little to rely on.
Five science fiction dystopian adventure films, based on the novel series by Suzanne Collins were created. The books and movies have a huge following and fanbase.
Carragher has changed his Instagram profile picture to that of his daughter on the promotional image for the stage production. On his story, he posted “Very proud of you @MiaCarragher. My girl on fire.”
Mia recorded the moment her parents found out she had landed the role, a clip of the moment was uploaded by Mia, and an emotional Nicola broke down in tears upon learning the exciting news.
@TheHungerGamesonStage posted a video, in which Mia said: “My name is Mia Carragher, and I will be playing Katniss Everdeen. I’m really excited to play Katniss. I relate to her quite a lot. I think she is very fearless but then she’s also got that nurturing quality about her.
“Everyone needs to come and watch The Hunger Games: On Stage because it’s going to be nothing like you’ve ever seen before. It’s going to be an amazing experience, amazing sets, such cool costumes. There’s going to be a new theatre built just for this show in Canary Wharf.”
Several comments of support have poured in after the announcement. Steven Gerrard’s daughter Lilly said “Well done M” and former Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent wrote “YES @miacarragher Well done darling.” John Bishop responded with clapping hand emojis, as did Robbie Keane.
