ITV The Chase Celebrity Special was back on our screens today as four famous faces hoped to to test their luck on the hit ITV quiz show. Hosted by Bradley Walsh, contestants Ken Bruce Alice Beer, Sonny Jay and Tim Vine made up the team to try and win thousands of pounds for charity as they took on The Beast.
It was radio and television presenter Ken Bruce who was up first to test his general knowledge skills. He gave a great performance and accumulated £7,000 in his Cash Builder ahead of a tense head-to-head against The Chaser, which he brought back to the team.
Next to take on The Beast was consumer rights campaigner and TV personality Alice Beer, who often appears on ITV’s This Morning to share her top consumer tips. Her first time on The Chase, she admitted to Bradley she was “nervous” but also earned £7,000 in her Cash Builder.
Advised by her fellow faces to “stick with what she earned,” Alice, wearing a long-sleeved green floral dress, declined the lower offer of £2,000 and the higher offer of £50,000. But as she faced The Chaser, Alice found herself beating The Beast on numerous occasions to get back to her teammates.
When asked to complete the title of Kate Silverton’s book on parenting, Alice completed the title ‘There’s No Such Thing As…’ with the correct answer A of “naughty” while The Beast chose answer C, “normal.”
Spreading the game as four ahead with three questions left, Alice laughed at The Beast before the next question came along. When asked which is the typical ingredient of an open tart is known as a pissaladiere, The Beast again got the answer wrong, selecting pineapple instead of anchovies.
Much to Alice’s delight, she danced and pointed while laughing in jest at The Chaser, who shrugged. The players were then asked for to complete the title of the TV dating series presented by Sara Cox, which The Beast again got wrong, selecting option C ’21st century’ instead of the correct option B, ‘countryside.’
Laughing and pointing again, The Beast responded “can someone get my coat please,” while Alice shouted and laughed “taxi please for The Beast.” Bradley added that if Alice were to get the next question right – she would have had seven attempts at the £50,000 high offer.
All laughing, Alice said: “Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I’m happy where I am.” On her final question, Alice gets through to the final, as Bradley looked at The Beast stunned and said” wow” as The Beast shrugged.
The Beast then said: “Unfortunately, there’s nothing I could have done about it – two players I couldn’t have caught.” Alice then returned to her fellow contestants thrilled, saying “I’m back babies, I’m back.”
Radio presenter Sonny Jay was next up, earning £2,000 in the Cash Builder, but opting for the £1,000 lower offer. The right decision, Sonny returned back to the team, but the same couldn’t be said for comedian Tim Vine who was last up.
Tim earned £8,000 in the Cash Builder and was encouraged to go for the higher offer by his teammates of £85,000, as oppose to what he earned or the lower offer of £1,000. But sadly he did not make it through to the final and was caught.
In the final, the celebrities chose set B of questions, earning 16 steps. But they were caught by The Beast with 38 seconds remaining, following two attempts to push back and non being executed.
However, the famous faces didn’t go back empty handed. As it was a celebrity edition of the game show for charity, they all went home with £1,000 for their chosen charity.
