Jodie Comer struggled to hold back the tears after she received a heartfelt message from Katarina Johnson-Thompson. The two superstar Scousers are close friends from their time attending St Julie’s School together in Woolton. While Jodie has conquered Hollywood, Johnson-Thompson has become an Olympic hero, who has won two world championship gold medals.
The stars have maintained a close bond throughout their rise to the top and enjoyed an emotional exchange during a recent interview with Jodie. Jodie’s latest film 28 Years Later was released earlier this month to rave reviews. She participated in a live edition of the Reign podcast with Josh Smith at the Adelphi Theatre in London.
A clip shared on the podcast’s Instagram has shared how the show ended in heart-warming style with a question via a satellite screen from surprise guest, Johnson-Thompson. The heptathlete, who is competing on Celebrity Deal Or No Deal in aid of charity today, paid a close tribute to her friend as she said: “I have one question for you Jodie.
“But before I do, I would love to quickly just say how proud we all are of you. Your talent has always shone so brightly and I’m sure your kindness, generosity and hard work has been on full display tonight with Josh and I’m so glad everyone gets to see you shine. So, in the reign of your life, what is the one rule you will always live by.
Jodie was visibly tearful as she explained the close bond she has with the heptathlete. She said: “That made me very emotional. We went to secondary school together. It’s so funny, when we look back because we were like, you know in Mean Girls, we were the art freaks.
“We were the group of girls in the schoolyard making weird videos, dance routines and just being so odd. There’s friends at home, who I’ve known since I was so young who’ve seen all the different versions of me.
“And who are the people who I know that no matter where I’m going, I get back with them and it’s like everything sheds. And we can all be your truest self.”
Jodie earned praise as she answered Johnson-Thompson’s question to explain the one rule she would live her life by. She said: “The quicker you let go, the quicker you’ll learn because I feel like I’ve had feelings and ruminated on them and questioned them and doubted them and then acted upon them.
“And then realised that feeling was really trying to tell me something. And then you learn the lesson. And that’s what I’m feeling at the minute. The quicker you let go, the quicker you learn and get out of your own way.”
Fans praised the heartwarming clip in the comments. Natalie said: “That was such a thoughtful and beautiful moment.” Maddie commented: “Loved this part.”
Linda posted: “Haha the emotional ambush. Gotta love the reaction to friendships.” Thaiba posted: “Had me all teared up when that happened. So beautiful and very special moment. Thank you both for sharing.”
