“Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle Star Surprises Fans with Authentic Accent While Teasing ‘Huge’ Scenes”

Emmerdale viewers have been left gobsmacked after hearing the real accent of Charity Dingle actress, Emma Atkins.

Emma has been portraying the iconic character of Charity since 2000, and has been part of numerous high-profile storylines during her tenure on the soap.

Notably, Charity had a scandalous affair with her ex-husband, Chris Tate’s (Peter Amory) sister, Zoe (Leah Bracknell), and was also reunited with her long-lost daughter, Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb).

That’s not all, as she was also embroiled in a money-making scheme, suffered sexual abuse at the hands of detective Mark Bails (Rocky Marshall), and embarked on a fan-favourite romance with Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick).

Recently, it’s been a distressing week for Charity and her family, with the Dingles left shocked by the news of Nate Robinson’s (Jurell Carter) death on Thursday (June 5), reports Belfast Live.

Viewers were left distracted as on Emmerdale Charity has a strong Yorkshire accent, whereas in real life actress Emma has a less northern tone.

“I’ve never noticed she fakes her accent for the show,” one shocked fan shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“Hahaha omg,” another added, while a third said: “Like why is she posh, this feels illegal.”

Speaking to Metro on the red carpet at the weekend, Emma teased lots more drama for her character, promising a “huge journey” ahead.

“It’s going to be huge towards the middle and end of the year, with her connections with Sarah [Sugden], basically,” she revealed.

“Sarah, at the moment, isn’t letting her in, but there’s that crossroads where she’s like, ‘Do I tell Charity the truth?’

“Then we go on a huge journey later on, which I can’t reveal yet. I’m working a lot with Katie [Hill] and she’s a phenomenal little actress, she’s just brilliant. I love her.”

On whether Charity and Vanessa might rekindle their romance, Emma added: “I’m sure there’s good stuff for me and Michelle to do as well, and I love working with Michelle, she’s so great. So I’ve got a really lovely few months coming up.”
