Love Island is set to have the nation gripped again next week – and show OG Amy Hart is back with all the juiciest reactions to the drama on a new Love Island podcast. Amy appeared on the sun-soaked reality show in 2019 and, while she famously left the show alone, after a tumultuous romance with Curtis Pritchard, she’s certainly moved on in life.
Amy, 31, is now happily married to her husband Sam Rason, with whom she shares two-year-old son Stanley, and lives in West Sussex.
Here, she opens up to OK! about married life after tying the knot in Spain last September, trying for baby number two plus the latest Love Island series which she promises will be “the most dramatic” yet…
Amy, how are you? Busy, balancing work and mum life?
You know, I like to try and be two people – I don’t like to blur the lines of work and mum life. I like to keep my days with Stanley work-free and the days I am working, my family or my husband’s family help out.
My childcare arrangements are a bit crazy but Stanley has a great network of people. The other day I said to him, “Who’s your best friend?” And he was like, “Auntie Jane!”
Do you feel pressure to portray motherhood in a certain way online?
No, I’m quite lucky in that Stanley is quite straightforward. People think that I don’t show real motherhood, and I’m like, “Well I’m showing my motherhood.”
Because I chose not to show him crying, having a tantrum, not showing him if he ever went to the hospital, and people say that’s not real life. I’m like, “I just have boundaries with my child.” My guiding light is, if my husband put this on his story of me, would I be annoyed? If the answer is yes, I don’t put it there.
What’s the funniest thing Stanley has said or done?
Oh, it’s probably more that he just has to run everywhere he goes, full pelt! And his speech is so funny. Everything is “that’s so cool” or “oh goody”. He just keeps us laughing, constantly.
And how’s married life with Sam?
It feels just like it did before, we both feel quite free. We are in such a good place, we have such a good time. We always say that we both knew we would get married at some point, but we never thought that we would meet someone we got on so well with.
Do you have a plan for the next few years? You’ve spoken about freezing your eggs…
I’d love more children. We’re trying at the moment. It’s obviously not been as simple as it was with Stanley, but I’m manifesting and doing all the right things. I’m doing intermittent fasting to try and lose some weight, because though my BMI is not crazy high, it’s higher than what’s recommended for the optimum weight for getting pregnant. I feel like at the moment it’s quite hard to talk about online. Once, hopefully, I have some good news, then I’ll be able to share more and help others.
Any behind-the-scenes secrets from working on the Love Island podcast?
I’ve heard it’s gonna be the most dramatic series yet. I’m a superfan, so I almost, don’t predict what happens, but I’m like, “Oh I love this part.”
But apparently that’s all going to change this year, it’s going to be completely different. We watch the episode live, so there’s no way we can know about the drama ahead of the podcast. When we go on the pod, all our live reactions are fresh.
What do you think of this year’s islanders, who’s your favourite?
Well, there’s a former British Airways hostess who started at Gatwick just like me, so that’s really special. I think we know some of the same people. We love an air hostess. I’m really looking forward to seeing her.
Are you still friends with islanders from your season?
I love Amber [Gill], and everyone else, it’s a bit like work colleagues. I don’t live in London. I sort of have my own life down here. I love having a chat and seeing their news on Instagram, and when we see each other it’s like no time has passed, but we don’t live in each other’s pockets. That’s just life and part of growing up.
How would you describe your confidence now compared to when you were on Love Island ?
I was about to jokingly say, I’m a lot heavier! But talking about confidence, I was only 57 kilos when I was on Love Island , and I was very self-conscious of my body, still.
I wouldn’t wear bandage dresses because I didn’t think I had the body for it, whereas now, if I like a dress, then I will wear it. I also want pictures with my little boy on holiday, in the sea and on the beach. I don’t want there to be a lot of, like, missing pictures and videos of his childhood, because I was a size 14. Making memories is more important.
