Meghan Markle Honors Daughter Lilibet’s Fourth Birthday with Sweet Tribute and Rare Family Photos

Meghan Markle celebrated her daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday with a touching tribute and never-before-seen family photos. On Wednesday, June 4, the Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to post intimate black-and-white pictures of Lilibet. One photo shows Meghan holding her daughter during a recent boat trip, while another features baby Lilibet snuggled close to her mother.
Alongside the images, Meghan wrote:
“Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives – and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to host a celebration for Lilibet’s birthday, though one notable absence will be her grandfather, King Charles.
Last month, in a surprising revelation, Prince Harry disclosed that his father had cut off communication with him after Harry lost a legal case regarding his security arrangements in the UK, according to The Mirror.
The only known time Lilibet met her grandfather was three years ago, during an emotional trip to the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee — a rare occasion when Harry and Meghan brought their children for a visit.

Former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond expressed sadness over the King likely missing the birthday, calling the situation “incredibly sad.” Speaking to The Mirror, she noted,
“Her birthday falls mid-week, so I assume it’ll be a school day for Lilibet, but I’m sure there’ll be time for a tea party or some sort of celebration. Children’s birthdays are always joyful, and I believe Meghan will go all out to make the day magical for her little girl.”
Bond continued,
“I recently celebrated my own granddaughter’s fourth birthday — the joy, laughter, and love — and I can only imagine the pain King Charles must feel missing out on these moments. These years can’t be relived once they’re gone.”

Lilibet has been appearing more frequently on Meghan’s Instagram account. Despite Harry and Meghan’s ongoing efforts to protect their children’s privacy, the photos shared online are carefully selected to avoid fully revealing Archie or Lilibet’s faces.
Jennie Bond added,
“I suppose Meghan is posting more pictures of the children because she knows the public is curious, but she’s still being very cautious about showing their full faces. That’s understandable — she wants to protect their privacy. Though some might argue there’s a fine line between keeping family life private and using the images to boost her social media presence.”
Now that both children are in school, Meghan and Harry are expected to have more time for their projects. Meghan seems to be ramping up her own endeavors, though it’s believed that the couple continues to prioritize family — much like Prince William and Princess Catherine.
Lilibet, the youngest grandchild of King Charles, was born on June 4, 2021, in California. She was named Lilibet Diana in tribute to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and her grandmother, Princess Diana. Seventh in line to the throne, Lilibet has never lived in the UK and has only visited once.
