Alison Steadman is definitely open to a return of Gavin and Stacey.

Alison Steadman portrayed Pam Shipman on the BBC sitcom

Alison Steadman has expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of Gavin and Stacey returning. The 78-year-old, famous for her role as Pam Shipman in the beloved BBC sitcom that first aired in 2007, shared her hopes for a comeback after the show’s emotional finale in December 2024.

Gavin and Stacey, created by James Corden and Ruth Jones, concluded with a heartfelt episode watched by over 19 million viewers. The finale featured an unexpected wedding between Smithy and Sonia, followed by Smithy’s emotional proposal to Nessa, finally bringing closure to their on-again, off-again relationship. Despite this satisfying ending, Alison believes there’s room for more, suggesting the story could work well as a film. She praised the writers, saying she’d be “definitely up for” a movie adaptation, confident that James and Ruth could craft a fantastic and funny screenplay.

However, Ruth Jones, who won a BAFTA for her performance on the show, has dismissed the idea of reviving Gavin and Stacey, explaining that the charm of the series was its tension and unpredictability. Ruth mentioned that seeing Smithy and Nessa in a settled, domestic life wouldn’t hold the same magic, and that the finale was the perfect conclusion, which fans also seemed to agree with.

The episode provided a rollercoaster of emotions

Alison’s co-star Larry Lamb, who plays Pam’s husband Mick, supports the idea of a film version, believing it would draw millions of fans to cinemas and be a huge success. Reflecting on filming the final scenes, both Larry and Alison described the experience as deeply emotional and one of the highlights of their careers, emphasizing the strong bond they share on-screen.

In summary, while the writers have ruled out a continuation, Alison Steadman and some of her co-stars remain hopeful that Gavin and Stacey might return in some form, especially as a feature film, much to the delight of fans who still cherish the show.
