EastEnders’ Harvey Monroe star ‘finally living the dream’ after multiple failed auditions

EastEnders’ Ross Boatman, who portrays Harvey Monroe, graced The One Show’s sofa on Monday (May 12), chatting with hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp about his passion for the soap.

Joining him was Busted’s Matt Willis as they both discussed their current projects.

He confessed to being a “huge EastEnders fan” and shared that he had auditioned for several roles before landing the part of Harvey Monroe.

“I am living the dream. It took me a long time to achieve that dream,” he shared with Alex and Roman.

“They saw me about four or five times before they finally gave me a part, but it came along at the perfect time in my career, in my life. Yeah, I absolutely love it and I am living the dream.”

When Alex asked about the mentorship programme for new cast members, querying if Perry Fenwick was his mentor, Ross responded: “Well me and Perry go back at least 40 years, we have known each other forever.

“So I was delighted to know he was going to be my mentor, turning up I didn’t know what was going to happen.

“And his advice was ‘tear out any pages that you’re not in, you don’t need to read that’, and ‘the bars that way’.”

Meanwhile, Ross opened up about his character Harvey’s current plotline, which involves him having a secret affair with Kathy Beale (played by Gillian Taylforth), behind the back of his partner Jean Slater (portrayed by Gillian Wright), reports Plymouth Live.

The revelation of Harvey’s affair is set to be dramatically unveiled, but it’s still uncertain how this will affect him, Kathy and Jean.
