“Gemma Bissix opens up about her life away from the screen, 12 years after Clare Devine’s exit from Hollyoaks”

Hollyoaks favourite Gemma Bissix is reportedly returning to the Channel 4 soap as village vixen Clare Devine 12 years after being killed off.

According to reports, the actress has agreed to reprise her iconic role and will be back on our screens as early as next month despite being mowed down by a car driven by Doctor Browning back in 2013.

Clare seemingly lost her life instantly but bosses soon brought in her scheming sister Grace Black (Tamara Black) to continue the family’s legacy.

As rumours swirl on what will exactly bring Clare back from the dead and to the village, let’s take a look at her private life away from the spotlight.

Gemma Bissix

Gemma first appeared in EastEnders as Clare Bates when she was just nine years old back in 1993 and remained in the role for five years before leaving the soap in 1998.

Following her departure from EastEnders, the TV star took a break from acting for a few years. After leaving school she ran a pub for two years, worked for her father’s electrical wholesalers and also worked in Marks and Spencer as a bra measurer.

However, she still desired to act, and continued to audition for roles. In 2000, she guest starred in the Doctor Who and in 2002 she appeared as Roxanne Lloyd in BBC medical soap Doctors.

She later joined rival soap Hollyoaks in 2006 when she played Clare Devine for two years. The star would reprise her role on the Channel 4 show twice – first, when she returned in 2009 and four years later in 2013 when she made a fleeting comeback.

Gemma’s also had bit parts in other hit TV series including Doctor Who, in which she played a young woman possessed by a malevolent alien entity, Mongrels and The Crust.

She’s appeared in a series of pantomimes, including Snow White, Aladdin and Cinderella. In 2009, she turned her attention to reality TV when she competed in Dancing On Ice.

However, she didn’t have a very successful run on the show and ended up being the second contestant to be eliminated after failing to impress either the judges or the public.

Gemma Bissix and Kristian Rouse

Away from the cameras, Gemma enjoys her life with her husband Kristian Rouse and their two children.

The pair met in 2008 and the two dated for seven years before getting engaged in 2015. They tied the knot in July 2018, and have since welcomed daughters – Juliette and Vienna.

Gemma has been dedicated when it comes to raising her two girls and regularly posts adorable family photos on her social media accounts.
