“Kate Garraway Offers a Rare Personal Update as She Steps in for Lorraine Kelly”

Kate Garraway has given a rare update on her children, Darcey and Billy, 15 months after the passing of their father, Derek Draper.

The 57-year-old presenter stepped in for Lorraine Kelly on her ITV chat show on Monday (April 14) morning, marking her first time hosting in over a decade.

Dr Hilary Jones welcomed Kate back to the show and quickly asked about how Darcey and Billy are doing.

Kate shared: “Billy is doing his GCSEs at the moment and they start really early. In my day, which was O Level, it was all June but now most of his are over by the end of May.

“He did break his arm two weeks ago in three places but unfortunately it was his left arm so he can still write.”, reports the Express.

The proud mum continued: “Darcey is doing great. She’s in her first year of uni now.”

The GP asked “What she reading?”

Kate responded: “Law and Criminology so that’s a bit scary isn’t it. She’s up in Manchester.”

GMB star Kate is no stranger to Lorraine, having regularly hosted Friday shows and filled in for holiday cover until 2014.

Now, 11 years later, Kate was back on the show and couldn’t hide her excitement as she shared the news with her GMB colleagues during the live crossover.

Handing over to Kate on the Lorraine set, Charlotte said: “Look who’s here for Lorraine this morning – it’s Kate. Look at you in a different studio.”

Kate responded: “I feel like I’m on holiday, Charlotte. I don’t know what’s going on. A later start, I’ve been looked after by everybody. It’s very exciting. I feel like I’m having a nice time but I’ve actually got to do a show.”

Derek sadly passed away in January 2024 after contracting COVID-19 during the global pandemic.
