Jamie Carragher often shares family updates to social media and to mark Mother’s Day has posted special messages to his mum and wife, Nicola. The Liverpool FC legend shares two children with Nicola.

Carragher and Nicola have two children together, Mia and James. In a post dedicated to Nicola, he wrote: “#happymothersday @nicolacarragher you have & continue to do a brilliant job with our two kids & we are all very lucky to have you.”

The former Liverpool defender married his childhood sweetheart in 2005. According to the footballer’s autobiography, Jamie had to ask Nicola to marry him twice after his first proposal went wrong when he got an incorrectly sized ring and a mis-wrapped present.

The couple have known one another since they were children and even went to primary school together. In response to the heartfelt message, Nicola said “couldn’t do it without you”, the post showed the mum with her daughter and son in two separate images.

Carragher also sent a lovely message to his own mum, Paula. The former Premier League defender stated “#happymothersday @paulacarra277 Two peas in a pod!! Have a lovely day mum & thank you for everything you do for us every day.” Mia Carragher commented on the picture of her dad and nan “The second picture so cute”

The image showed Carragher and his mum standing next to each other in the Anfield crowd, spectating a game. Other comments left under the post included “Happy Mother’s Day to all the queens out there that go unnoticed” and “What a picture there.”

The 47-year-old has a close bond with his family and in recent weeks has supported Nicola on her marathon journey. After she completed the Tokyo marathon this month, Carragher shared a photo of her holding a medal with the caption “@tokyomarathonfoundation is about the athlete’s especially @nicolacarragher who was amazing & has now done four of the seven @wmmajors with three more to come in the next few months.”

In October, Nicola completed the Chicago marathon and received a similar message of support from the former Red. In a heartfelt message posted to Instagram the Sky Sports pundit said: ”The Wifey @nicolacarragher has now done @chimarathon so that’s two marathons in two weeks with four more to go. I can’t believe what she’s actually done in the last two weeks.”

‌Jamie continued: ”A marathon tests you physically & mentally like nothing else & there’s not a chance of me ever taking on this sort of challenge, you are amazing Nic & inspiring in equal measure. Chicago is also amazing!”

This week, fans have been kept in the loop as the Carragher family jetted off to Malta as James competed in his first international game for Malta. Having started out following his dad’s footsteps in the Liverpool academy setup, James Carragher currently plays for Wigan Athletic after coming through the youth system.

The centre back went about acquiring Maltese citizenship in Feburary, which he was eligible for through father Jamie’s grandad and mum. He was successful in this pursuit, with Malta FA president Bjorn Vassallo confirming that they were now considering the 22-year-old for selection.

Sharing his pride, the dad-of-two shared a family photo from the European country. He wrote “Brilliant few days for the family in Malta & Poland watching @_23jc_ making his international debut.”
