Dianne Buswell hit back at her Strictly Come Dancing partner Chris McCausland as he mocked winning the show. Chris and Dianne lifted the famous Glitterball Trophy in December.

They finished ahead of JLS singer JB Gill and Miranda star Sarah Hadland. Chris, 47, won TV Event of the Year at the Chortle Awards last month.

Sine winning the hit BBC show, Chris and Dianne have started the Winning Isn’t Everything podcast. During a recent episode, Chris couldn’t help but remark that winning the show was “the greatest thing that has been accomplished on British television.”

Dianne, who had finished runner-up with Bobby Brazier in 2023, didn’t miss a beat. She retorted: “It hasn’t gone to my head at all Chris. I do not go to my trophy every single day and just sing a little thank you song. I love it, I look at it every single day.”

Chris however dismissed the win. He joked: “You see Di, in your life, it’s everything you’ve ever dreamed of, but in my life, it’s just something that happened.”

Unswayed, Dianne explained Chris had “done well” since the show, reports Edinburgh Live. She responded: “Don’t give me that because you’ve now won a comedy award because of Strictly right? So you can’t say anything.”

She continued to remind him: “You’ve done well from it. Your little tour is selling out, doing three shows a day, sometimes four, so you can’t be complaining.”

Chris initially ventured into comedy back in 2003, trying his hand at stand-up comedy. Within his first year, he managed to earn third place on Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny? competition.

He joked that winning a comedy award for dancing was a “kick in the balls”. The celebrity went on to say: “Got a comedy award for best TV event of the year. Twenty odd years of comedy and I get one for dancing.”

After their success on Strictly, Dianne,35, and Chris have forged a strong friendship. Dianne expressed her appreciation after their victory last year, mentioning how much she values the bond with her dance partner, Chris.

On Instagram, she expressed her sentiments, saying she is “forever grateful for the friendship I have gained in such an incredible person (Chris)”, and also extended thanks to her supporters: “I’m still so overwhelmed with the kindness of people and the support you have shown us throughout this whole thing. Thank you all so so much.”

Since joining Strictly in 2017, Dianne had reached the finals twice before – once with Joe Sugg in 2018 and another time with Bobby. However, the memorable victory in 2024 with Chris marked a monumental occasion as he became the first blind contestant to win the competition.

In celebrating their victory, Chris paid homage to Dianne and acknowledged everyone who has been underestimated, declaring his win was “for everyone out there that thought and got told they couldn’t do something”.
