“Monty Don Receives Support After Sharing Future of BBC Gardeners’ World”

Monty Don has shared an update about the future of BBC show Gardeners' World.

Monty Don has shared an update about the future of BBC show Gardeners’ World. The long-running BBC programme has been on our screens since it first aired back in 1968.

The first episode of Gardeners’ World came from the Oxford University Botanic Gardens, but over the years the programme has had many presenters who have featured their own gardens. These have included Percy Thrower, Geoff Hamilton, Alan Titchmarsh, Arthur Billitt and current presenter Monty Don.

The success of Gardeners’ World led to the establishment of the Gardeners’ World Live show and BBC Gardeners’ World magazine. It inspired other gardening shows such as Ground Force and Home Front in the Garden.

‌Monty Don became the lead presenter for the BBC flagship programme Gardeners’ World between 2003 and 2008, he then resumed the role from 2011 and does it to the present day.

The 69-year-old gardener lives in Herefordshire with his family and pet dog, Monty. Many episodes of the show are filmed in Monty’s garden in Longmeadow, where he hosts from.

He has recently been filming for a new series, Monty Don’s British Gardens, in which he travels across the UK to discover what gardens can tell us about the nation. His latest update addresses BBC’s Gardeners’ World.

On Instagram, Monty shared a picture of a film crew in his impressive garden. He captioned the image on Tuesday: “Gardeners World back in action in the garden- first programme goes out next Friday.”

Fans of the show live across the globe, One foreign fan wrote: “As an American fan, I have to tell you that I don’t know that I’ve ever needed a new season of Gardener’s World more than this year, and that includes 2020!”

A second fan said: “Woo hoo! That’s how you know spring is here when GW is back!” Others wrote “Thrilled!! Can’t wait! Been watching for years, and this is my first year having a garden.” Others responded “NOW we know spring has finally begun!” And “can’t wait, here we go again.”

The new series of Gardeners’ World on BBC Two began on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 8 PM. The show is presented by Monty Don and airs on BBC Two and iPlayer.
