The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has revealed why she doesn’t want any new stars joining the show. The Governess has been a part of the line-up on the Bradley Walsh hosted show since 2010.
The 66-year-old is part of a rotating line-up Britain’s finest quizzers that also includes Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis. In an interview with our sister site, Mirror Online, Anne admitted she doesn’t want any new faces joining the line-up as she revealed a behind the scenes salary detail.
She said: “Well we do always hope not. We are paid per show, so we’re not on a salary. It’s not as if they’re going to up the budget and add a new salary.
“A new chaser would just mean the same number of shows shared between more people – so less money for everyone. So, hope not!”Darraghis the latest Chaser to join the show, but Anne said there is no bad blood as she heaped praise on The Menace.
She added: “You know, Darragh has been a very good new addition, he’s very popular, and that’s worthwhile.” The Chase has opened up many career opportunities for Anne as she revealed she hopes to one day appear in a sitcom.
She told the ‘A Very Tall Man’ podcast : “I’d love to be on a TV show or a film. I know various people who are trying to get things off the ground.
“One of them is the guy on The Chase, he’s written a sitcom with a part for me. It would be brilliant to get that made. Anne spoke to the ECHO in an exclusive interview ahead of the National Diversity Awards in 2023.
She explained her career hopes in the chat as she said: “I’d love to do a bit of acting. I know there’s rumours about people who would like me to do a bit of acting but the money’s not there or I just never hear anything back. Mostly I just think the money’s not there.”
She shared a show fear as she compared herself to other the other Chasers in the line-up. She said: “I think of myself as slow. Compared to most people I’m quick, compared to most quizzers I’m quick.
“Compared to most chasers, I am the sixth fastest out of six. We’ve got a series of Beat The Chasers in the can. When it goes out, I know people are going to be saying is Anne’s buzzer broke?
“I keep reaching and trying to get to the buzzer, but everyone keeps beating me. But I always worry I’m going to go slow and I’m getting slower because I’m the oldest chaser. So I worry about that so it’s always nice when regardless of what the actual target was, it’s nice when we catch it.”
