“Leo Woodall’s Cut Role in Crime Thriller Ahead of His Bridget Jones Breakthrough”

Leo Woodall stars in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, but his first film role never made it to the big screen

Bridget Jones star Leo Woodall once had his scenes cut from a crime thriller starring Tom Holland.

The 28-year-old actor is taking on a new romantic role in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, released on February 13, where he plays Roxster, Bridget’s much-younger love interest.

Prior to joining the franchise, Woodall had starred in HBO’s hit drama The White Lotus and played the beloved character Dexter Mayhew in Netflix’s One Day.

However, the rising actor’s film debut in a 2021 drama did not make it to the big screen.

Woodall was cast in Marvel filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo’s on-screen adaptation of Nico Walker’s 2018 novel Cherry, reports the Mirror.

Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo in Cherry, now streaming on Apple TV+

The thriller, available to stream on Apple TV+, was led by Spiderman star Tom Holland and explored the criminal life of its titular character.

According to the synopsis, “Cherry drifts from college dropout to army medic in Iraq – anchored only by his one ‘true’ love, Emily. However, after returning from the war with PTSD, his life spirals into drugs and crime as he struggles to find his place in the world.”

Alongside Holland, Ciara Bravo, who shot to fame on Nickelodeon, portrays his equally troubled love interest, Emily.

Woodall played a small part in the film as Rodgers, but his scenes did not make it out of the cutting room. The production team has not shared an official reason why his scenes were cut.

Woodall stars in the new Bridget Jones film, out in cinemas now

Despite being cut from the final edit, Woodall’s work on the film hasn’t gone unnoticed, as it’s still acknowledged on his online film credits like those on IMDB.

Eagle-eyed fans who’ve only just stumbled upon the actor have been left stunned to see him listed in the cast for Cherry. A puzzled cinemagoer recently vented their confusion on X, exclaiming: “Leo Woodall was in Cherry??? SINCE F****** WHEN?”

Upon release, the film received a mixed reception, with critics on Rotten Tomatoes handing it a rather unpalatable 37% score.

Yet, some viewers have lauded the drama, one of whom commented on IMDB saying: “This is a dark, haunting and beautiful film. Not sure what movie some of these reviewers were watching, but Cherry is incredible.”

The Netflix sensation subsequently joined the cast of the Russo brothers’ action-packed series Citadel, which they also executive produced a couple of years later.
