Emilia Fox, the beloved actress from Silent Witness, has been captivating audiences as Dr Nikki Alexander since 2004. As the show wraps up its 28th series with a nail-biting finale, fans are eager for more behind-the-scenes details on their favourite TV pathologist. As the latest series comes to an end, viewers will see Emilia’s character attempt to track down a suspect of a crime while also navigating the stresses of wedding planning.
Unlike her character’s complex on-screen relationships, Emilia’s off-screen romance is filled with love. In terms of personal life, the 50 year old star is happily involved with her partner, TV producer Jonathan Stadlen, with whom she’s been romantically linked since 2021.
She beautifully articulated her feelings about their bond to Yours Magazine. “We very much feel like we are married, but we’re not actually married,” she said. “We choose to marry each other every day; not in an official capacity, but by choice of being with each other. So it’s a daily marriage of love,” she said.
This heartfelt expression captures the couple’s unique approach to their unwedded bliss, reports the Mirror.
In a heartwarming revelation, the TV star shared with Woman&Home how Jonathan’s sweet gestures keep their love alive: “Just saying we love each other each day has been enough for us in this moment. It has felt very romantic because there’s a choice every day to go, ‘Yes, I really want to marry you today,'” she gushed. “He asks me in all different places and at different times. Sometimes when we wake up, sometimes it’s at lunchtime, sometimes on bended knee!”
Emilia, who is a doting mum to daughter Rose with actor Jeremy Gilley, also gave The Guardian a peek into her family life in 2023, revealing her perfect Sunday routine. “Jonathan has a boat, so we might go rowing on the Thames with Rose and all the dogs,” she said. “If my parents are in town it’s a good time to see them. Sunday afternoons are often about Rose’s homework, but I do feel like a nag.”
Before finding love with Jonathan, Emilia was previously married to Jared Harris, an actor celebrated for his roles in Mad Men and The Crown, and who clinched a BAFTA for his performance in HBO’s Chernobyl. The couple had a dreamy wedding in Dorset back in 2005, complete with a magical release of butterflies.
Emilia and her ex Jared called it quits after three years, finalising their divorce in 2010. Chatting with MailOnline, the Silent Witness actress reveals it wasn’t their age difference – Jared being 13 years senior – that caused the split.
“The truth is, it’s very difficult to maintain a relationship when you’re living apart from each other and you’ve both got careers that depend upon being in different countries. I was doing Silent Witness in England for seven or nine months of the year, and Jared’s career was flourishing in America,” Emilia opened up.
The actress also shared during the heartfelt interview about experiencing a miscarriage. She confessed that maybe she underestimated its emotional toll on their relationship: “We had been immensely happy, so the unhappiness was measured against this incredible time together. Maybe it was because of having had the miscarriage, which really hit me a year later,” she said.
Emilia reflected on not addressing the emotional aftermath adequately, saying, “I think it was my fault that I didn’t explore the emotional side. I thought it was like a horrible illness that you get over. I was working and I concentrated all my focus on that.”
