Boyzone’s Shane Lynch Says Reunion Is Off the Table—Unless One Condition Is Met

Boyzone star Shane Lynch has ruled out any chance of the band reuniting to make music in the future as he appeared on Lorraine to chat about the new documentary that focuses on the boyband

Boyzone’s Shane Lynch will have devastated many fans after his latest interview, where he declared that the beloved boyband will “never” reunite. Speaking on Lorraine today, Friday 31 January, with stand-in host Ranvir Singh, Shane opened up about the upcoming Boyzone documentary No Matter What, set to air on Sky Documentaries on Sunday 2 February.

He made it clear that while he and his fellow bandmates, Keith Duffy, Ronan Keating, and Mikey Graham cherish their time as Boyzone, they won’t be reforming as a band or creating new music. Ranvir asked whether Boyzone might hit the studio again, to which Shane responded: “I say this with the greatest respect, we will always be a band called Boyzone but we will never be a band again. I don’t think we will ever make music again.”

However, he didn’t completely dash hopes for some kind of get-together, hinting at the possibility of sharing the stage once more for a fun night, not just for the fans but for themselves too.

Shane also touched upon his personal connections within the group, revealing that working on the documentary rekindled his communication with Mikey Graham after years of silence. “I haven’t spoken to Mikey for quite a few years and then when I saw the first draft of the documentary, I couldn’t help myself so I called him,” he shared, reports the Mirror.

“He was amazing in it, he made the documentary for me,” he said. “I was delighted for him to tell his story and that honesty from him was incredible and just a difficult thing for him to do, to come and join us in the documentary. We were very unsure that was going to happen, so to have the completion of all of us was fabulous and he did an amazing job. I’m very proud of him.”

The new three-part documentary takes a nostalgic look back at the boyband’s glory days, featuring archival footage of all the members including the late Stephen Gately, who passed away in 2009, alongside fresh interviews with Shane, Mikey, Ronan, Keith, and their former manager Louis Walsh.

Louis Walsh

Louis, the mastermind behind Boyzone in 1993, aimed to rival Take That and propelled them to stardom in Ireland, the UK, and worldwide. At the peak of their fame, the Irish heartthrobs scored 21 top 40 singles and 22 hits on the Irish charts, including six UK No.1 singles and nine in Ireland.

The Sky documentary uncovers the behind-the-scenes dynamics under Louis’ management, revealing his controversial tactics that affected the band. In a candid admission within the documentary, Louis acknowledges that he fed fabricated stories to the press to maintain Boyzone’s prominence and spur record sales, even spinning a false yarn about a plane crash that turned out to be merely a minor mechanical issue.
