Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant sent fans wild when they graced the red carpet at the Paris premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy on Monday night, 28 January. The Hollywood heavyweights reunite in the film, the fourth in the franchise, which is set to be released on 14 February.

Renee, 55, reprises her role as the lead character, while Hugh, 64, returns as the notorious Daniel Cleaver. Posing for the cameras in Paris, Renee dazzled in a black, lace off-the-shoulder dress. Her blonde hair was styled into a chic low ponytail, adorned with a black bow, showcasing her glam makeup and elegant gold jewellery. Hugh, meanwhile, looked dapper in a classic black velvet two-piece suit and a crisp white shirt.

The stars happily posed for photos alongside co-stars Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor, director Michael Morris, and screenwriter Helen Fielding, whose 1996 novel Bridget Jones’s Diary was adapted into the hit film that launched a franchise centred around Renee’s beloved heroine.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name. The film finds Bridget as a 51 year old widow who still maintains her diary, reports the Mirror. In a sad twist, Mad About The Boy reveals that her beloved Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, passed away five years prior, leaving Bridget as a single mum of two.

In Bridget Jones’s Baby, Hugh Grant’s character Cleaver was said to have died in a plane crash. However, the film had one last surprise up its sleeve. A newspaper headline at the end revealed Daniel was alive, sparking hope for his return in future films.

Chatting with Vanity Fair, Hugh confirmed that he couldn’t make Cleaver fit into the storyline of Bridget Jones’s Baby, the third film. However, he knew the team behind Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy wanted the character back, so he penned some scenes that the filmmakers liked enough to include in the script.

The star of The Heretic described Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy as “very funny” and “very moving”. However, he revealed that he only worked for a week on the project, so his screen time is limited.
