Kelvin met his wife Liz when he was just eight years old
Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has opened up on his marriage to his wife Liz as he admitted that the last ten years “haven’t always been easy.”
Kelvin met Liz when they were just eight years old but the couple officially got together later on in life and tied the knot in a ceremony at London’s One Mayfair.
The couple now work together as they star in a reality TV show documenting their family life on the farm, after Kelvin quit Emmerdale to compete in BBC Strictly, which he won back in 2019 with Oti Mabuse.
And while the pair might seem like loves young dream, Kelvin said the couple have had to work hard at their marriage.
Speaking to Amelia on her podcast Ameliarate Through Wine, he said: “Work hard, like anything in life. You’ve got to put the hard work in. You take your vows.”
“You got to take those seriously for better or for worse. And in sickness and in health. And that is it. You know, there’s times through life, the colour of life, the variety of life you’ll get all of that.
“In the testing times you’ve got to have faith in what you are doing, and why you decided to take those vows, and see it through, as simple as that.”
The couple have certainly had their ups and downs during their 14-year relationship, and briefly split in 2010. But now they are currently stronger than ever.
Liz added: “Just try and marry someone you like. That’s a good start. I think you have to laugh together, work your dreams out together. Don’t hold each other back. Just pursue what you need to do but do it as a team.”
The couple also spoke about how he won Liz over on their first official date by keeping the business card from the restaurant.
He said: “Fast forward 11 years to the night before our wedding day, I kept it with a view that one day, I would give it to Liz because I knew she was the one.”
He said the night before their wedding he gave it as a wedding gift and had written on the back: “I can’t wait to marry you.”
