Emmerdale’s Joe Tate and Noah Dingle family tree explained as fans ‘work out’ real plan

Monday’s episode of Emmerdale saw Joe Tate, who returned over Christmas, attempt to build bridges with Noah Dingle much to Charity Dingle’s horror

In the latest episode of Emmerdale, Joe Tate made an effort to build bridges with Noah Dingle.

Joe, who made a comeback over the festive period, presented his younger sibling Noah with VIP tickets to a Leeds match. This extravagant gesture and Joe’s attempts to re-enter Noah’s life left the latter’s mother, Charity Dingle, deeply concerned.

In a bid to safeguard her son, Charity enlisted Ross Barton to warn off Joe. Long-time viewers will remember Joe’s backstory and his family connection to Noah, but for those new to the soap, this might be new information. Here, we delve into Joe’s family tree and past…

Ned Porteous first graced the village as Joe in 2017, portraying the orphaned child of Christopher Tate and Rachel Hughes, reports Leeds Live.

After a twelve-year absence from the village, Joe returned to Emmerdale under the pseudonym Tom Waterhouse in 2017. He quickly began a relationship with Charity’s daughter Debbie Dingle, using his alias Tom as part of his vendetta against Charity.

Joe held Charity responsible for the death of his father Chris, who was married to Charity. Chris poisoned his own drink in 2003 in a plot to frame Charity for murder following her affair with Cain Dingle. Charity gave birth to Noah in 2004, several months after his biological father Chris’ death, making Noah Joe’s younger brother.

However, Joe’s ‘true’ identity was soon revealed when he evicted Debbie and her children, ending their relationship and cruelly admitting she was just collateral damage in his revenge plan against Charity.

Shortly after, Joe repurchased his childhood property, Home Farm, moved in, reconciled with Debbie and grew close to his half-brother Noah.

In 2018, Joe had a dramatic exit when he was forced to flee after Kim, who had been married to his grandfather Frank Tate, ordered his death.

Initially, it seemed that Debbie’s father Cain had accidentally killed him during an argument, where a single punch resulted in him hitting his head on a rock. However, it was later revealed that Joe’s right-hand man Graham Foster had covered up the truth that Joe was still alive and he was hiding abroad, living off money from Kim’s companies.

Joe returned last month during the Christmas episodes but it seems he’s concealing a significant secret as the character has been causing concern with his health. Joe has been seen taking various medication and on Friday’s episode, Joe collapsed to the floor and suffered a seizure.

As Joe’s health continues to deteriorate, Emmerdale viewers have begun speculating about his intentions for his brother Noah. One fan took to Twitter, now X, to ponder: “I wonder if Charity were to discover that Joe is terminally ill and Noah is his heir will she have a change of attitude. #emmerdale”, while another expressed their excitement: “Joe content! Yay! Tate brothers unite!”
