The Masked Singer viewers ‘convinced’ Snail is huge TV star after one major clue

The Masked Singer returned to ITV on Saturday night with 12 new celebrities taking to the stage, but viewers are convinced they know who is behind the Snail costume

The Masked Singer viewers are certain they’ve cracked the identity of the second contestant, Snail. The ITV guessing game returned on Saturday (Jan 4) with a fresh batch of 12 celebrities trying to keep their identities under wraps. Panel regulars Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross were joined by newcomer Maya Jama and special guest Sir Mo Farah for the sixth series’ stylish kick-off.

After Maya selected Teeth to perform first, Snail was up next, and fans think they’ve figured out who’s behind the quirky costume, though the judges aren’t so sure. Davina McCall was convinced it was Emma Willis in disguise, while Mo Gilligan suspected Love Island’s Amber Davis. Mo Farah, however, was certain it was Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton.

Given the character’s confident and pitch-perfect rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso, fans also thought it was someone with singing experience. Armchair detectives took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their theories, and one name kept cropping up.

“Snail is Stacey Solomon! ” declared one viewer, while another chimed in: “Know everyone guesses her for everyone but snail sounds like Stacey Solomon! ” Others agreed with Mo, thinking Snail could be a girlband member. “Could Cheryl or Kimberley Walsh or Nadine Coyle be snail,” suggested one, while others speculated it could be a Girls Aloud member, reports the Mirror.

Following Nicola Roberts’ 2020 stint as Queen Bee, which saw her crowned winner, and a subsequent guest judge spot in the second series, fans are now trying to unmask the new contestants. Twitter sleuths are convinced that Teeth is Alan Carr, after the costumed star performed (Is This The Way To) Amarillo by Tony Christie and dropped a hint: “I’ve been schooled in variety, I have lots in the mix, the way I perform knocks the audience for six.”

Other characters leaving fans guessing were Dressed Crab – whose slight American twang led fans to suspect they person behind the mask was an American – and Kingfisher. The judges loved Crab’s performance of Lean On Me, with Jonathan Ross saying “I’ve never heard a crab sing before but I didn’t expect it to be that amazing,” before guessing Jamie Foxx.

Meanwhile, online speculation suggested Kingfisher could be comedian Harry Hill, known for his iconic browline glasses and oversized shirt collar and cuffs. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one viewer wrote: “I hear Harry Hill,” as another agreed: “From that one opening line, the weird bird is Harry Hill?”.
