Coronation Street icon Kevin Webster to battle cancer in devastating new storyline

Coronation Street icon Kevin Webster, played by actor Michael Le Ve, will face a testicular diagnosis in a devastating new storyline which is due to air next year

Coronation Street star Kevin Webster will face a cancer diagnosis in a new storyline in 2025. Kevin, who is played by actor Michael Le Vell, has been a familiar face on the cobbles for four decades and has found himself at the centre of many high profile storylines. And now he will take on a devastating new journey after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

As well as seeing Kevin cope with the aftermath of the diagnosis, viewers will watch how it affects his relationship with his wife Abi as she navigates her own struggles. “Ultimately, it’s about their relationship and testing that relationship,” said producer Kate Brooks.

Speaking to The Sun, Kate revealed that Coronation Street had worked closely with the charity Macmillan to ensure that they were telling the story “right”. She added: “It was really important that we don’t show Kevin being embarrassed or being reticent to talk to his friends about it.

“He’s quite open about it, which I thought was quite refreshing. He talks to Tim and Steve about it, and they all have their own way of handling it, but ultimately it’s about his relationship with Abi, and that is going to be truly tested.

“As I alluded to, Abi is going through her own situation as she struggles with the aftermath of a big event that happens in January.”

As well as this, with all eyes on the Websters, Kevin and his sister Debbie will meet their long-lost brother Carl when he sets foot in Weatherfield. Carl, who’ll be in his late 30s, is the son of Bill Webster and his second wife Elaine. The character grew up in Germany and is yet to make his debut on the show.

As well as Carl, there will be some other new arrivals on the cobbles. Among those is Rob Donovan, as played by Marc Baylis. Rob was last seen in prison, and it is expected that when he returns to Coronation Street he will cause problems for his sister Carla (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Meanwhile, fans were recently left surprised when a villain they never thought they would see again made a brief return to the iconic soap. In the run up to Gail’s wedding and departure from the show, she had a terrifying dream in which her ex-husband, serial killer Richard Hillman, came back to visit her.

Richard drowned in 2003 when he tried to kill Gail and her family, so his comeback was kept secret. To ensure nothing was revealed, the scenes were shot in a tightly sealed set, with minimal crew and Helen present.
