Coronation Street’s David Platt actor snubs co-star’s career move as he slams ‘silly rule’

Coronation Street actor Jack P. Shepherd has revealed he will not be supporting his former on-screen brother Sam Aston when he takes to the ice on ITV’s Dancing on Ice

Jack P. Shepherd, famed for his role as David Platt on Coronation Street, has revealed why he won’t be seen in the audience supporting his co-star Sam Aston during his stint on Dancing on Ice.

Despite praising Sam’s ice skills on the On the Sofa podcast with fellow Corrie actor Colson Smith, Jack admitted that he won’t make the trek to Bovingdon studios in Hertfordshire, where the show is filmed. “No I’m not, and I’ve been before,” he explained. “It’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s a bit of a pain to get to.”

Meanwhile, Colson shared his excitement to cheer on Sam and reminisced about supporting former Corrie star Brooke Vincent, who was a runner-up on the show in 2018. Colson admitted he initially thought Sam was hitting the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing, only to find out it was EastEnders’ Jamie Borthwick who would be showing off his moves on the BBC competition.

Jack pointed out the “rule” that prevents stars from crossing over between ITV and BBC shows, explaining: “There’s this rule where ITV and BBC don’t share their artists. It’s a silly rule.”

This unwritten rule means that while EastEnders actors can strut their stuff on Strictly, Race Across the World, and MasterChef, Corrie favourites are more likely to be seen in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! or gliding across the ice on Dancing on Ice.

Dancing on Ice is set to make a grand return to our TV screens on Sunday, January 12. This year’s star-studded line-up includes Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave, TV presenter Michaela Strachan and soap stars Sam Aston and Chelsee Healey.

They’ll be sharing the ice with former Premier League ace Anton Ferdinand, TOWIE’s Dan Edgar and Ferne McCann, and Mollie Pearce from The Traitors.
