Home Alone legend admits they’ve not seen movie in 34 years

Daniel Stern played burglar Marv Murchins in the iconic Christmas film Home Alone, but the actor has admitted that he hasn’t watched the movie in full since the premiere

Daniel Stern, famed for his role as the bumbling burglar Marv Murchins in Home Alone, has revealed that he hasn’t fully watched the beloved Christmas film since its initial release in 1990. While he expressed his love for the film and his involvement, Daniel confessed to only watching glimpses by pure accident.

The now-67 year old actor, who starred opposite Joe Pesci, reminisced with PEOPLE about the only times he sees Home Alone. He revealed: “I’ve seen clips. I’ve seen it pop up. Or like, they have highlights when you turn on the TV, I turn on the TV and there I am falling on the toys or something.”

Despite his distance from the movie, Daniel expressed his fondness for the project, he stated: “But yeah, I mean, what, am I going to hunker down and watch me? I love the movie. It’s tremendous. I know the script inside and out.”

Since stepping away from acting, Daniel has pursued a new passion for sculpting, working primarily with bronze. He noted an interesting parallel between his art and film work, sharing how, after finishing a sculpture, “Once I’m done with them, they’re not dead … Creatively, they’re done. I need to go to the next one.”

Just like his approach to movies, Daniel places his focus entirely on future creations, maintaining a forward momentum and rarely looking back. Speaking of his experiences on set, he said: “My head is totally forward on the next thing I’m making. And by the time the movie comes out, that was a year ago, and it is great, but I don’t want to go back. I did it. I shot it. I know it. The script was good. That scene went that way. And I’ll see it once and go, yeah, that was good … I just go forward.”

Daniel also revisited his role in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in 1992, but it seems his heart now lies firmly in the art world over Hollywood. Despite this he still has credits in The Simpsons, Family Guy and Saturday Night Live.

He has also welcomed three children, including American politician Henry Stern.
