Emmerdale’s Amelia star Daisy Campbell breaks silence over shock axe from soap after 13 years

Emmerdale actress Daisy Cambpell has admitted she’s had a ‘tough year’ after being axed from her role as Amelia Spencer on the ITV soap after 13 years on the show

Emmerdale viewers waved goodbye to fan-favourite character Amelia Spencer yesterday as she left the Dales for a new adventure away from the village. Actress Daisy Campbell had starred on the soap since she was seven years old and admitted she found it “tough” to leave the job after 13 years.

Daisy confessed: “It’s been such a tough year and I’ve had to deal with so much, but I was so at peace when leaving because I’ve grieved – for myself and the character. It was my first ever job, I’ve had it since I was seven, so it feels really sad. But I feel at peace now.”

The 21 year old actress admitted one of the hardest parts of leaving the job was leaving behind her fellow cast members naming Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle Dingle), Rosie Bentham (Gabby Thomas), Katie Hill (Sarah Sugden) and Jack Downham (Noah Dingle).

Daisy added: “I went to school with them, and we know each other outside of the soap because we actually never really worked together on the show. Saying goodbye was also really emotional because Mark Jordon [who played Daz Spencer], came back for one episode. And then I saw Laura [Norton, Kerry Wyatt], and when she cries, I cry.”

In the storyline, Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) threw Amelia a goodbye party and at the beginning, it looked like Kerry wasn’t going to show. But luckily at the last minute, she returned to say her goodbyes. Amelia then left the Dales with her young daughter, Esther, to live with her dad, Daz, in Leicester.

At just 21, Daisy has a long career ahead of her and plans to continue acting in anything from ‘new dramas, plays and films’. She added that before Emmerdale, acting was something she ‘fell into’, but at 13 years old decided it was something she ‘really wanted to do’.

Daisy continued: “Since I found out I was leaving, my determination for acting is just so much more now, there’s so much I want to do, and I think it’s a perfect age to leave. I’m excited to see what comes my way, and I need a challenge. I really want to do Strictly next year, because I’m a dancer. I’ve been dancing since I was three, but I don’t know how to do the salsa or anything like that. I’m open to anything really, I feel like the world’s my oyster.”
