Fitness influencer dies aged 43 three months after being shot during robbery

A fitness influencer, father and husband has tragically passed away at the age of 43, three months after he was shot during an attempted robbery at his home

Miguel Angel Aguilar, a fitness influencer, has sadly died at the age of 43. It comes three months after he was shot during an attempted robbery at his home in Los Angeles.

The founder and CEO of Self Made Training, who gained almost 50K followers across social media, was confirmed to have died in a heart-wrenching message. Shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, 22 December, the lengthy statement said: “Dear Self Made Family. We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our founder and CEO, Miguel Angel Aguilar. After a courageous three-month battle following the tragic incident that took place on September 13th, 2024, Miguel peacefully passed away on December 21st, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.”

It continued: “Miguel was more than just a leader; he was a visionary, an inspiration, a mentor, a father, a husband, family, and a dear friend to many. His unwavering dedication to Self Made Training Facility, his passion for the fitness industry and entrepreneurial spirit have left an enduring legacy.

“Miguel revolutionized personal training and inspired countless individuals to pursue their fitness and entrepreneurial goals. His strategic mind and innovative spirit were the driving force behind Self Made’s rapid growth and success.

“As we mourn the loss of our dear friend and leader, we also celebrate his extraordinary life and the positive impact he had on so many. Miguel’s spirit will live on through Self Made Training Facility. We will continue to honor his legacy by staying true to our mission and values while continuing to innovate and serve our franchises, trainers, members, clients, and the rest of our current and future Self Made Family members. The 43 year old had been in hospital since the attempted robbery took place at his home on 13 September, reports KTLA. Police told NBC Los Angeles that Miguel and his celebrity hair-extensionist wife, Priscilla Valle, were confronted by four armed men in the driveway of their LA home.

According to reports, one of the suspects fired shots at Miguel several times, including one in the face, before they fled the scene. It is unclear what the suspects were after, but sources told TMZ that they reportedly tried to take his Rolex.

Tributes have flooded in for Miguel as someone wrote underneath the Instagram post: “May he rest peacefully forever. A entrepreneur like no other but his best work was being a father.” A second shared: “Unreal. Such a great guy with a positive impact on others. Deepest condolences to his family. Wishing strength for his family during these tough times.”

A third heartbreakingly wrote: “This is absolutely heartbreaking. Miguel was truly one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met. He poured his heart & soul into helping so many people. He taught me so much & helped change my entire life. I have him to thank for all of the success I have had with my career in personal training. My heart goes out to his family. We’ll all be praying for you during this hard time. Thank you Miguel. RIP.”
