Coronation Street’s Gail Platt’s return date to the cobbles has been ‘unveiled’.
Gail (Helen Worth) first graced our screens on the ITV soap all the way back in 1974. As the hapless-in-love mother-of-three, Gail became one of the programme’s most legendary and cherished characters.
She was also central to numerous major plotlines throughout the decades. From turmoil involving her offspring David (Jack P. Shepherd), Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tisley (Ben Price) to shocking killings and betrayals, Gail’s stint in Weatherfield has been packed with chaos, reports the Daily Star.
Nevertheless, last June saw the announcement that Helen was departing the programme – with the 73 year old explaining: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.”
Gail’s departure plot centred around her wedding to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson). On Christmas Day 2024, Gail bid farewell to the cobbles in a heart-wrenching hour-long special as she and Jesse jetted off to France to begin their fresh chapter.
Since her departure, Gail has been referenced on several occasions – with David even popping over to see her earlier this year. Meanwhile on the programme lately, it’s been a thrilling period for the remainder of her clan.
Last month, David’s spouse Shona (Julia Goulding) revealed the wonderful news that she was expecting her first baby with David – leaving him absolutely chuffed. But now, with the Platt family set to welcome a new addition, fans are speculating about when beloved grandma Gail will make her return to Weatherfield – and it seems it could be sooner than we think.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer speculated: “Who thinks Gail will return when Shona gives birth?” Another fan echoed this sentiment: “I’d love that, even if it’s a video appearance.” A third agreed: “I thought that as well.”
Meanwhile, back in September, Shona’s actress Julia Goulding hinted that her character’s upcoming baby storyline would be far from smooth sailing, promising ‘twists and turns’ on the ITV soap.
When quizzed about whether there were exciting scenes and some happy news on the horizon, Julia told the Mirror: “Yeah, not that it’s without its drama.” Keeping her cards close to her chest, she then added: “There’s more drama on the way, definitely.”
Julia further teased this, hinting that it was related to the impending arrival of the new baby. She said: “What can I tease? I don’t know, apart from that there is gonna be lots of twists and turns for them regarding the future of their family… child..”
