Natasha Hamilton has spoken about her “worry” after noticing a change in her hair. The former Atomic Kitten singer has been open about her perimenopause journey and the difficulties she has endured as a result. Last year, she described it as one of the ”biggest shocks” of her life after the diagnosis.
In October 2024, the mum-of-five posted a lengthy statement in which she said: ”This month just so happens to be #menopauseawarenessmonth and two weeks ago I was officially diagnosed with hitting the #perimenopause.” In the statement the singer discussed the slow ”unravelling” of a person and described herself as someone she “hardly recognises anymore.”
Natasha says she experienced crippling anxiety about doing everyday things that before were just done on autopilot and has felt completely lost, doubting everything she has done in life and self-sabotaging things she has worked so hard for. She explained she has had symptoms of perimenopause for years and it has been a “slow” decline.
In an update posted to Instagram this morning, October 8, Natasha shared a photo of loose hair in a clump and another of her hair thinning. She said: “Let’s talk about perimenopausal hair loss! Something that’s been a little bit upsetting in recent months. But it’s something I wanted to talk about because so many of us experience this.
“When I first started having perimenopause symptoms, I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism and had had a baby – a triple whammy – and all of these affected my hair.”
The Whole Again singer further explained: “I went from having super thick and strong hair to brittle hair that fell out in clumps every time I washed or brushed my hair. Then I started on medication & HRT, after several months that seemed to slow down a lot. Now, 12 months on, it’s happening all over again but this time it’s worse.”
Natasha’s hair is thinning across her hairline, in between and on the sides. She first noticed the change as she was doing a middle parting and it appeared a lot wider than previously. Expressing her feelings, the 43-year-old said: “It is worrying, so now I’m setting off on another journey to figure out how I can try to reverse these issues. Especially with my job and also my hair always being my confidence.”
The singer will be challenging herself to go on a full gut cleanse, as well as researching supplements to support this and diving deeper into the reason why hair loss happens. She finished her statement, telling followers, “Here’s to the new hair and health journey I’m about to embark upon.”
Fans were quick to praise Natasha’s honest personal update. One fan said: “Thank you for sharing this, as I’m going through the same. I’m starting to see more scalp than ever and it’s definitely affecting my confidence.”
A second comment thanked the Kensington-born artist; they said: “Thank you Natasha for talking about this! It affects so many women going through and postmenopause!”
Further replies included, “Will be interested in this journey, as I have been suffering with perimenopause hair shedding for a few months now. It definitely is scary,” and “Best of luck to you trying to combat this lovely. I’m very particular about my hair; I can’t leave the house without putting product on! You still look amazing.”
Natasha is mum to Josh, Harry, Alfie, and Ella, from her previous relationships, and daughter Kitty, who she shares with husband Charles Gay. The couple got together in 2016 and married in Lake Como in Italy in 2021.
